Affinity Sutton’s, award winning, Neighbourhood Investment Team are strongly linked to building stronger communities: by providing groups of people with activities and services. For example, youth engagement work, breaking down isolation felt by senior members of the community, championing diversity and coordinating a Community Grants Programme. Nicky Dodds played a key role in setting up the Bentswood Community Partnership and led on the consultation and installation of the Barn Cottage Outdoor Gym. Streetmate, providing youth engagement activities is a regular sight in the locality.
In addition, the Ready 2 Work (R2W) team, provides services to unemployed residents. Brokering people with specific skills and employers; offering training opportunities to enhance job prospects and even doing mock interviews! Ryan Matthews and Beth Searl work closely with a number of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people.
Lastly, our small but dynamic Financial Inclusion team, commissions a range of activities and services to support people around money management, family budgeting and debt. Digitial Inclusion and the Get Connected Programme are initiatives that have been started to build a larger on-line Bentswood Community. Some of our residents access benefits and with new Welfare Benefits being on-line this will be an ever-increasing need.
